Project SLAM, Junior Ranks Mess, Marne Barracks, Catterick
The Junior Ranks Mess includes dining facilities (to provide meals for over 600 people) along with games area, bar/snack facility, television rooms, reading rooms, retail and hairdressers.
It operates on the ‘Pay as You Dine' concept which is essentially an integration of Catering, Retail and Leisure functions provided by one supplier with military staffing assistance.
The main dining area is designed to provide flexibility for all users and operators, assisting with surge feeding while avoiding a large vacant space which is difficult to treat in a friendly manner.
An external terraced area is provided as a ‘spill out' from the coffee bar, dining and retail areas.
The mess sits within the heart of the twelve new accommodation blocks and now that it is completed it's the final piece of the master plan.
