Jordanhill Parish Church, Glasgow
Stone repairs to Jordanhill Church tower
Project Value: £68,000
THE PROJECT: In Phase I of what is likely to be an ongoing restoration programme for the church, its tower was repaired and a new lead roof installed.
OUR BRIEF: Following a condition survey that highlighted various structural failings, we prepared a plan of restoration and managed the project. Regular meetings were held with representatives of the church, contractors and consultants. The building is listed and any stones taken out in the course of the repairs had to be numbered and rebuilt as existing.
THE RESULT: A minor change in design by the church put some pressure on the timescale, however, the job was completed on time and the scaffolding had been removed before Christmas 2004. Keeping to budget was a priority throughout the course of the work and this was achieved. The finished result is pleasing and the structure is now watertight. Replacement stone, sourced from Locharbriggs quarry, near Dumfries is a perfect match.
