Project SLAM, Richmondshire Lines, Junior Rank Accommodation
The completed developments at Richmondshire Lines, Catterick Garrison, are a central element of the single living accommodation modernisation (SLAM) programme currently being undertaken by the MOD to provide high quality accommodation for services personnel enlisted within all divisions of the Armed Services.
The projects involved the modular construction of 13 separate buildings in a variety of layouts; in total providing almost 700 new single person en-suite bedspaces for Junior Rank soldiers.
The buildings are arranged around landscaped courtyards, Waithwith Road forms a central tree-lined avenue. Extensive landscaping is an intrinsic part of the project, incorporating both new and retained trees, shrubs and vegetation.
Sculpted landforms, varied surface treatments, amenity and recreational spaces encourage informal usage. A network of pedestrian and cycle pathways within the site are integrated with and reinforce the existing and improved routes.
The project was completed in 2008 and in conjunction with the master planning development at Tankadrome. 21 individual buildings provide over 1200 bed spaces.
