Stewart’s Mont Blanc Challenge

Stewart Hamilton, Director of our Building Surveying division recently climbed Mont Blanc, raising money for Yorkhill Children’s Foundation.

The expedition commenced at 1.45am, with 2 hours on skis to the foot of the first arête, then a 2 hours of crampon and ice axe climbing to the bottom of the Dome du Gouter, high above the village of Chamonix.

Stewart said “At this point it was dark but I knew there was a large drop just to your left and behind, and a heavily crevassed area to the right. Falling was not an option! Once at the top of the arête the sunrise was a sight to behold.”

Skis were put back on for a further 2 hours to the Vallot hut, crossing the terminal crevasse just below the Dome du Gouter. From there crampons and ice axes again for the final push up the Bosses Ridge to the summit.

“After 15 minutes on the summit the fun part started, as the team skied down the north face from the summit. Fresh powder and bluebird skies; simply stunning.”

It only took 2 hours ski/walk back to the start and a well deserved celebratory beer (or two)!!!

Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to the Yorkhill Childrens Foundation via the ‘Just Giving’ website. for anyone who hasn’t there is still time, click here to visit Stewart’s Just Giving webpage. Total so far is around £2,500.00.
